I only have eyes for you.

So, we just flew home from attending my neice’s wedding. And how can I even begin to share the experience of not just two people, but two families merging their lives into one new future? It’s what romance novels and rom-com movies are based on. Everyone enjoys the story, but secretly believes, “That never happens in real life!”

And yet, it really did.

All of the guests — families and friends — were genuinely happy for the couple and, I believe, happy for themselves. Each was gaining another friend, another family member, another person to reach out to for advice, information, a chat or even consolation. You could see it in their eyes, their smiles, their laughter. No matter if you were someone who helped change a diaper three decades ago or now participate in random video chats, it was special.

True love exists in many forms and it’s not just reserved for lovers. We experience true love for our children, our parents, our friends, and a neice . It’s a desire to make and see someone else happy and safe at all expense — without condition, obligation or judgement.

And, everyone in attendance did just that. “Félicitations chère Mrs. BF!”
