Who’s Noone?

“Noone’s Perfect.”

— Melvin R. Goldberg

Growing up, our house was frequently laced with adventure, unique quirks and unexpected surprises. One such quirk came about following my proud display of a recently embroidered pair of 1970’s blue jeans. My dad misread the embroidered mantra and with his typical sarcastic smirk, he merged the words, turning it into our family’s forever motto: Noone’s Perfect. Little did we know that this twist of phrase would come to shape our family dynamic in the most delightful way. Embracing the idea that nobody is flawless, we learned to celebrate our imperfections and find beauty in our unique qualities. It became a gentle reminder that mistakes and flaws are what make us human, and that it’s okay to stumble, as long as we pick ourselves up and keep moving forward. This catch-phrase created an atmosphere of acceptance, love, and growth fostering an environment where we could be ourselves without fear of judgment. Whether it was a less than stellar grade or a struggle on the court, he would always chuckle and exclaim, “Noone’s Perfect!” and we’d continue on. So, although it was a “misread” phrase initially, it became a powerful reminder for us to embrace our imperfections and cherish the imperfectly perfect moments that make life so fabulous.
